The challenge here was to address a hundred years of history and bring this fabulous apartment up to the standards of modern living. We removed worn features and cracked plaster and made the space safe with mold remediation and certified asbestos removal. We removed a structural wall and reconfigured the wall with steel beams and columns to create an open concept between the living room and dining room. By building a new wall layout we optimized the flow of space, added new plumbing, and all new electrical.
Great finishes included an all-new custom kitchen with custom cabinets, new closets, a new marble mantelpiece for the fireplace, skim-coat plastering to a Level 5 finish, and a fresh paint job throughout for a refined sense of good living. There is deep satisfaction in performing work like this, a cross between renovation and restoration, touching a piece of history and giving a family a wonderful, new home.
